Title: Principal Instrument Engineer

We require a Principal Instrument Engineer based in Aberdeen city centre for ongoing contract work. Job spec below is not exhaustive but highlights a number of the major tasks of the role.

A. Knowledge and Understanding of Engineering Principles
(Specialist Discipline Skills Required for Contract Role)

  • Specifying modifications to existing equipment or purchasing new equipment including but not limited to:
  • ESD, DCS, F&G and Metering
  • Valves
  • Field Instrumentation including Pressure, Level, Temperature, Flow and Specialist Measurements
  • SIL, High Integrity Systems
  • Industrial Networking and Communications
  • Other associated equipment with the Oil and Gas industry.

B. Practical Application of Engineering Skills to Solve Engineering Problems

  • Resolve technical queries and ensure the resolution is satisfactory and ensure that all design changes are captured by the change control process
  • To be able to conduct site surveys
  • To be able to produce calculations required for the role and participate in design reviews and check and approve discipline documents also to check interdisciplinary documents where necessary
  • Producing documentation deliverables for inclusion in workpacks, and or, design books on time to meet project deadlines for assigned packages and scopes of work.

C. Technical and Commercial Leadership

  • Responsible to a lead engineer for a number of other engineering personnel to ensure workscope delivery and ensure the technical quality of work discipline team assigned to the scope of work; to be able to demonstrate competence in the role.
  • Provide input to project planning as part of the project team for achieving the target and completion within the budget and schedule; ensuring that all engineering work is carried out in accordance with Asset priorities and schedules as set out in the project plan.
  • Plan, budget and coordinate resources, contribute to the development of plans, schedules and estimates for the individual workscopes. Preparation of engineering and construction scope for both man-hours and equipment estimates where necessary.
  • Review and report job progress and cost reports regarding engineering activities
  • Identification of increase or reduction in scope and assist in raising the necessary support documents for Project Control Purposes

D. Interpersonal Skills

  • Liaise with other disciplines in the execution of the work.
  • Prepare and deliver appropriate presentations
  • Computer literate in Microsoft packages and required software packages for role.
  • Effective communication and organisational skills.
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic and able to work as a team member and communicate effectively with onshore and offshore personnel at all levels.

E. Professionalism

  • Comply with relevant codes of conduct
  • Provide a level of technical support that satisfies the appropriate Asset Safety Case and that the PFEER performance standards are not compromised by any Discipline Engineering Activities.
  • Conversant and knowledgeable with respect to current and new legislation and standards.
  • Compliance with company engineering procedures, industry, international and client codes and standards.
  • Ensure that all work complies with the Contract Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality policies and procedures as appropriate
  • Operate and act responsibly, taking into account of the need to progress environmental, social and economic outcomes simultaneously
  • Be responsible for continuing professional development necessary to maintain and enhance competence in own area of practice.

F. Qualifications and Experience:
Highest Qualifications / Lowest Experience

  • Holds an engineering degree in a relevant engineering discipline and is a Chartered Engineer with sufficient post-graduate experience to be considered as highly skilled in their respective discipline. A reasonable level of the experience should be in a relevant theatre of operation. Previous supervisory experience preferable.

Lowest Qualifications / Highest Experience

  • Holds an HND in a relevant engineering discipline and working towards Chartered Status with sufficient post-graduate experience in their respective discipline. A sufficient level of the experience should be in a relevant theatre of operation. Previous supervisory experience essential.
